Kampung Rako, Cameron Higland 15 February 2017 – The MAF had initiated a two-day project with a group of 38 volunteers to build and install 60 sets of solar panel lights with the support of experienced engineers for the Orang Asli of Kampung Rako Baru, Cameron Highlands. The volunteers consisted of staffs from AEON CO. (M) BHD., AEON Credit Service (M) Bhd and university students.
This two-day project started with volunteers gathering to build the lights from scratch. On day two, the volunteers gathered again at 7.00am to depart for Cameron Highlands along with the completed solar panel lights. The journey involved transfer from busses to 4-wheel drive cars, as to get to Kampung Rako Baru the team has to enter the jungle. The group arrived at Kampung Rako Baru after ascending a mountain and crossing a river around 2pm.
Without further delay, the group set about installing the solar panels with the help of the villagers. Kampung Rako Baru is occupied with 40 families and after completing the task at hand, the volunteers stayed on to wait for the sun to set. This was to ensure that all the solar panel lights work. The volunteers spent some time with the villagers and the children. MAF have also presented bags filled with groceries and daily necessities for all the families.
