63 Senior Citizens Get a RM60,000 Reason to Smile this Chinese New Year.

Malaysian AEON Foundation spreads love to three old folks’ homes

Penang, 10 February 2018 – In its 2018 edition of the annual “Spread Our Love” Chinese New Year celebration, Malaysian AEON Foundation (MAF) extended a helping hand to three old folks’ homes located throughout Penang.

Held over a span of two days—9 and 10 February, the initiative catered to a total of 63 senior citizens from Gan En Zhi Jian Bhd, Peace and Harmony Home, and Persatuan Penyayang Warga Tua Pulau Pinang. Also present to interact with the citizens, and to lend their support, were Dato’ Abdullah bin Mohd Yusof, the President of MAF; MAF committee members, and volunteers from AEON CO. (M) BHD. and AEON Credit Service (M) Berhad.

“Taking a cue from a popular Chinese saying about honouring one’s roots, this Chinese New Year, the Malaysian AEON Foundation wants to give back to the older generation. They’ve made contributions and sacrifices to give the younger generation an improved way of life, and we want them to know their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. We want to fill their lives with love and appreciation. We want to put a smile on their faces,” explained Dato’ Abdullah.

Keeping its promise to make the day a memorable one for the old folks, exciting activities were hosted at Gan En Zhi Jian Bhd (on 9 February), and Peace and Harmony Home (on 10 February). In addition to customary Lion Dance performances, appearances by the God of Prosperity, and the distribution of mandarin oranges, the senior citizens were also treated to delicious meals, and kept entertained with a karaoke session. Plus, volunteers worked together to decorate the homes, particularly for Gan En Zhi Jian Bhd, which was badly affected by flood last year.

Both days culminated with the giving of angpow with each old folk receiving RM50 and the donation of essentials such as adult diapers, food products, and toiletries amounting to RM16,850 for the three homes. In a bid to end the joyous occasion on a more auspicious note, MAF also extended a RM20,000 cheque to Gan En Zhi Jia Bhd, and a RM10,000 cheque each to Peace and Harmony Home and Persatuan Penyayang Warga Tua Pulau Pinang.
